I have taught at Uwharrie Middle School since the school opened in 2002 and now Uwharrie Ridge 6-12.  I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from High Point University.  I earned my certification in Business and Marketing Education from NC State University.  During my second year teaching, I completed a working solution for SIMS (Student Information Management System) to work in Windows XP and 2000 for NC Public Schools in 2004.  SIMS is a software package that was developed in the 1980’s and is used to track student data in NC Public Schools.  My solution was used by all school systems in the state of North Carolina until NC Wise was fully implemented in 2009.   From 2008-2014 students enhanced their learning through the use of Virtual Worlds.  Lessons were conducted in a Virtual World environment through a classroom server installed and setup by Mr. Walker.  Uwharrie received a commendation for the use of Virtual Worlds during a NC CTE Audit conducted in the Fall 2012.  My students helped me present our use of virtual worlds at the NC CTE Summer conference twice in 2013 and 2014.  In 2015 we had over 90% of our students earn their certifications in Word and PowerPoint and obtain their high school credit.   In 2017 I was one of two teachers in the county to bring Computer Science to my school by teaching the Code.org curriculum to my middle school students.  Students in middle and high school can now choose to take computer science courses at Uwharrie.

Students can earn their FAA Part 107 commercial drone pilot's license.  We are currently the only public school in Randolph county that offers this course in our school system.
